What Kind of Clay does Dennis Brown Use to Create his Santa figurines?

Fans ask Dennis this question all of the time: "What type of clay do you use?". Dennis exclusivly uses clay from the Polyform Products Company. Dennis has enjoyed using the clay products provided by Polyform.

For an artist, connection to the clay is important. In fact a while ago, Dennis wrote a peice on the importance of the clay. Here is what he wrote:

Clay

By Dennis Brown

"When someone works with clay, artist or not, they open doors most unimaginable. While we shape, mold and sculpt, we lose our thoughts in and of the everyday world.

We enter into a world that’s ours and ours alone. We drift off into a Neverland sort of place where dreams come true and life is simple, pure, 2nd imaginable only in our thoughts. Although people will watch and they will enjoy the finished creation, they cannot even begin to go where the creator went. Even if you invite them, they cannot possibly understand or accept where you were and when you were there.

Everyone who desires such access to that magical place must pick their own clay and unlock their own door and take their own journey. There’s no point what so every trying to explain it, or share your own journey into this magical world because we on ones will ever be the same and no one would ever understand.

Clay brings to life the unseen world around us if you mind is open to it,. No one goes with you and see or feels the same thing .. that’s the magic of the clay. Think about two people, two pounds of clay and what each will accomplish. Even if they have th same idea, that is because the road they traveled on, there journey was different in so many ways even if they were side by side during the whole process.

I could walk you through step by step, minute by minute and piece by piece and your journey would still be your own. That’s the magic of clay.

Often I will make and/or create something, and then try to do another one even with over forty years of practice I cannot accomplish the same results, and that is because one cannot travel on the same road twice and experience the same journey because you have entered through a different door. A door that eliminates creativity and has rules and directions and the result has been pre-determined.

And my experience shows me that never am I as happy with the second piece (notice I did not say creation but instead said piece. That’s because creation took place of the first time around)."
